Tattoo Aftercare Instructions:

• Keep the Bandage On: After your tattoo session, it's crucial to leave the bandage or wrap in place for at least a few hours. This covering helps protect your new tattoo from bacteria and keeps it clean. If you have a second skin bandage and notice any leakage or if it begins to peel off, this means the seal is compromised. Remove the bandage by the fourth day at the latest, clean the tattoo as per the following instructions, and monitor the area. It's normal to see some plasma and ink seepage from the fresh tattoo in the initial days.
• Gently Clean the Tattoo: After removing the bandage, gently wash the tattoo with lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free soap. Pat (don't rub) the area firmly with a clean paper towel to get it completely dry. Similarly, in the next week or two after showering gently pat dry with a clean towel.
• Apply Healing Ointment: Apply a thin layer of a recommended ointment (like Aquaphor, A&D, or a specific tattoo aftercare product) or fregrance free lotion (Lubriderm, Cerave). Do not use any products with fragrances on your tattoo for the first 2 weeks.
• Keep the Tattoo Moisturized: Keep applying the ointment as directed, usually 2-3 times a day, for about a week. Once the tattoo starts to flake and peel, switch to a fragrance-free lotion. Do not overmoisturize.
• Avoid Soaking the Tattoo: Stay away from natural bodies of water, swimming pools, hot tubs, or long showers for 2 weeks minimum. Brief showers are okay, but don’t let the tattoo be submerged in water.
• Wear Loose Clothing: Wear clothing that doesn’t rub against your tattoo, especially if it’s in a place that can be covered by clothes.
• Avoid Sun Exposure: Keep your tattoo out of direct sunlight while healing. Once healed, use sunscreen to protect the tattoo to prevent fading.
• Do Not Pick or Scratch: It's normal for the tattoo to peel and itch during healing. However, picking at the skin or scratching can cause damage and affect the tattoo’s appearance.
• Watch for Signs of Infection: While some redness and tenderness are normal, excessive swelling, warmth, or oozing could be signs of infection. If you notice these symptoms, contact a healthcare professional immediately.
